TenPoint Turbo M1 Review – Accurate, Powerful and Narrow Crossbow

In this review we’ll be discussing the TenPoint Turbo M1 crossbow. It’s one of the cheaper crossbows from TenPoint right now and I’m excited as to what it has to offer.

This is the most lightweight and narrowest version in the Turbo lineup from TenPoint. It comes with the new T5 trigger and an ACUdraw PRO cocking device or ACUdraw 50 sled.

The Turbo M1 has better features than the Titan M1 and gives you more value for your money. If you’re looking for a more advanced crossbow, we highly recommend you to take a look at the TenPoint Nitro X, It’s a more powerful crossbow and is equipped with a better scope.

Size and Weight

The TenPoint Turbo M1 is a forward-draw crossbow and has a total length of 32.5 inches. Because of the forward-draw design, TenPoint managed to keep the Turbo M1 quite narrow. It’s only 14 inches wide when not cocked and 9 inches when cocked.

The total weight of the Turbo M1 without the accessories is around 6.4 pounds. Including all the accessories the total weight of the Turbo M1 is around 7 pounds

Arrows and Speed

Included with the TenPoint Turbo M1 is a 3-pack of Pro Elite Carbon arrows. These arrows weigh a total of 400-grains and reach speeds of up to 370 feet per second. You’ll also receive 100-grain practice points for these arrows.

To actually reach the advertised 380 feet per second by TenPoint, you’ll have to separately buy the Pro Lite Carbon arrows. These arrows weigh a total of 370-grains and reach speeds of up to 380 feet per second.

We highly recommend to use the EVO-X CenterPunch arrows for hunting. They weigh a little more but give you more kinetic energy and therefore deeper penetration. Paired with the EVO-X CenterPunch Mechanical Broadheads, you’ve got an amazing hunting package!

All of TenPoint’s crossbows work with Alpha-Nock technology arrows, TenPoint recommends to only use the recommended arrows with your crossbow.

The Turbo M1 comes with a TenPoint 3-Arrow Instant Detach Quiver. It’s a basic lightweight quiver which does the job well. Rubberized material will help to silently hang your quiver while hunting.

Scope

As with all of TenPoint’s crossbows, the scope is also made by TenPoint. They equipped the TenPoint 3x Pro-View 3 Scope on the Turbo M1. This is a lightweight scope calibrated for up to 50 yards. You can use this scope with or without illumination. Without illumination you’ve got black dots and with illumination you can choose between rheostat controlled red or green colored dots.

It’s a really good scope that TenPoint designed, very easy to sight in and has a crystal-clear view.

Cocking

A TenPoint crossbow isn’t complete without their legendary ACU cocking devices. TenPoint designed the Turbo M1 for the ACUdraw PRO or ACUdraw 50 SLED cocking device. You can save yourself around $100 by opting for the ACUdraw 50 sled cocking device instead of the ACUdraw PRO cocking device.

The ACUdraw 50 sled cocking device reduces the draw-weight by 50%! This means that you’ll only need about 95 pounds of effort to cock the Turbo M1. This cocking device is fully integrated into the stock of the bow and after cocking the crossbow the ropes retract into the cocking device. This will enhance your hunting experience by a lot! No need to untangle the ropes or putting it away after you’re done cocking the crossbow.

Optionally you can get the ACUdraw PRO cocking device. The ACUdraw PRO is TenPoint’s latest and greatest cocking device. This device reduces the draw-weight to only 8.5 pounds! It’s completely silent and also fully integrated into the stock of the crossbow. This cocking device comes with a detachable ACUtorq crank handle. When you’re not using the ACUtorq, tiny powerful magnets secure the ACUtorq in place.

Trigger and Safety Features

TenPoint equipped their latest “T5” trigger system on the Turbo M1. The T5 Trigger is one of the safest triggers on the market. This trigger is ambidextrous, has an auto-engaging safety and of course an anti-dry fire inhibitor.

The trigger has a ¼ inch of creep and a pull of around 3.5 pounds. It’s a far superior trigger than the T4 trigger from TenPoint.

Assembly and Sighting-In

TenPoint doesn’t ship the Turbo M1 assembled. You have to assemble the crossbow yourself. This shouldn’t be a hard task though. Most forward-draw crossbows are very easy to assemble. It took me a total of around 10 minutes to fully assemble the Turbo M1 including the accessories

Basically, slide the riser on the stock of the bow. Make sure it’s properly seated and fasten the bolt. After that, install the foot-stirrup on the bow and then the quiver.

Storage

It’s always best if you properly store your crossbow for the off-season. If you don’t store your crossbow properly, there’s a chance you might end up with a broken crossbow at the start of the new hunting season.

Always store your crossbow in a cool and dry place. Before you do that, you’ll have to make sure that your strings and cables are waxed, nuts and bolts need rust preventive oil and make sure your crossbow is cleaned.

We recommend to always put your crossbow in a crossbow case specifically designed for your crossbow model. TenPoint designed 2 cased for the Turbo M1; a soft or a hard case. The Blazer soft crossbow case or the STAG hard crossbow case you can find both on Amazon or on TenPoint’s official website.

Range Test

For a forward-draw crossbow, the TenPoint Turbo M1 doesn’t feel nose-heavy at all. It’s a well-balanced and narrow crossbow. The cutouts in the foregrip make the bow more lightweight but it also feels nice to hold. The stock has an adjustable butt plate (2 positions).

I tested the Turbo M1 with the ACUdraw PRO cocking device. This is by far the easiest and most silent way to cock your crossbow, if you’ve ever cocked a crossbow with a TenPoint ACUdraw or ACUdraw PRO device then you should know what I’m talking about. With minimal effort you’re able to silently cock the Turbo M1 with the ACUdraw PRO.

Cocking the Turbo M1 with the ACUdraw 50 sled is also more comfortable than other rope-sled cocking devices.

While shooting the Turbo M1 I noticed that it created quite a loud sound. I decided to order & install the string dampening system on the Turbo M1. This quieted the shooting down a lot. It also reduced the amount of vibrations going through the crossbow. This will ensure a longer life for your Turbo M1. You can find the String Dampening System on Amazon or on TenPoint’s official website.

The trigger has about ¼ inch of creep and the pull is around 3.5 pounds. Because of the auto-engaging safety features and anti-dry fire inhibitor, this crossbow is very safe to shoot.

While speed-testing the Turbo M1, I saw speeds of 367 feet per second with the Pro Lite 400-grains carbon arrows. Speed testing the EVO-X CenterPunch carbon arrows with the 100-grain practice points I managed to get 348 feet per second out of the Turbo M1.

Shooting very tight groups with this crossbow is very easy. After shooting roughly 20 times I already blew through 3 arrows. I highly recommend not to aim at the same spot over and over. You will hit your target dead-center.
