Today we’ll be reviewing the Micro 340 TD, the latest member of Excalibur’s Micro Series family. Just like its predecessor, the Micro 360 TD, the 340 TD features Quick Lock technology, which allows the crossbow to be assembled or disassembled in seconds!
Partly thanks to the Micro Limb Technology, the crossbow is ultra-compact and because the entire frame is made of aluminum, the crossbow is very lightweight. This ultra-compact, lightweight, dismountable crossbow is equipped with all the premium features you are used to from Excalibur, at an affordable price.
We were very excited to get our hands on the Micro 340 TD and now that we did we are very impressed with the latest version of Excalibur’s Micro series. We also reviewed all the other crossbows of Excalibur’s 2020 line up; the Assassin 420 TD, the Suppressor 400TD, and the Assassin 400 TD.

First Impressions
The Micro 340 TD is designed to be as light as possible. It has a skeletal stock to cut weight and the mainframe is entirely made from aluminum. The riser is also made from aluminum as well as the housing of the trigger system. All of this makes the crossbow very lightweigth, the 340 tips the scales at 5.5 pounds(barebow).
The Micro 340 TD comes equipped with Micro Limb Technology to make it more compact. The full length of the crossbow is 33 inches and its axle to axle width is 25 inches uncocked and 21.5 inches cocked.
The stock of the crossbow has a palm-filling swell and the pistol grip has finger grooves fit for hunting gloves. I love the overall look of the crossbow, the Mossy Oak camo looks fantastic as well.
They also made sure the Micro 340 TD is as silent as possible. Excalibur’s R.E.D. suppressors are included in the package and can be installed on the riser assembly, they significantly reduce noise. The crossbow also has tendon stoppers to help quiet the bow down further.
Speed and Arrows
The Micro 340 TD has a power stroke of 13 inches. That’s a short power stroke but with a draw weight of 270 lbs, the crossbow is still really powerful and has sufficient knockdown power on the short-range. With the Quill 16.5-inch arrows from Easton we measured speeds up to 341.2 feet per second on our chronograph.
The Quill Carbon Arrows are 16.5 inches long and feature 2-inch offset vanes. The vanes help with the flight trajectory when the bolts are equipped with broadheads.
Scope
The Micro 340 TD is equipped with Excalibur’s entry-level scope, the Dead-Zone Illuminated Scope. The Excalibur Dead Zone Scope features a 1-inch tube and a 32mm front lens. It also has premium multi-coated optics. The scope has no fish eye and the lens is crystal clear.
The scope has multiple scales for different distances up to 100 yards and after shooting your viewer will be properly adjusted. It features red/green variable illumination and an Excalibur’s custom chevron crosshair.
Assembly
Thanks to the Quick Take Down Technology, the Micro 340 TD can be disassembled and reassembled in a matter of seconds. It ensures easy storage and compact transport. With just two simple steps, the front can be completely removed and reconnected to the main assembly. What is very nice is that there is no loss of accuracy after reassembling. Its takedown carry size is 28″x9″.
The 3-arrow attachable quiver bracket can be installed to the bottom of the rail.
Cocking
The Micro 340 TD has a 270 pound pull weight. That seems a bit much, but thanks to the included tensioning aid and the short stroke, it is doable and it gives you a lot of power in return. If you struggle pulling that much weight Excalibur included a rope cocking aid in the package that will reduce the draw weight by 50percent, so you’ll only have to pull 135 pounds.
Testing and Shooting
We found the Excalibur Micro 340 TD to be a beast in the field, it is very powerful for a short-stroke crossbow and highly accurate. The crossbow is really well balanced and comfortable to shoulder. With the Quill 16.5-inch arrows, we easily shot distances of more than 50 yards. According to our chronograph, we reached speeds up to 342.6 feet per second. We also tried a couple of different broadheads and we were still dead on target.
The trigger sytem is also great. It always delivers a zero creep smooth shot and the trigger system includes a Guardian Anti-Dry-Fire System to prevent dry firing but it has no automatic safety feature. Once cocked, the safety must be pushed down manually in two positions. The trigger doesn’t make to much noise.

Summary
Excalibur’s Micro 340 TD is a fantastic lightweight, compact, take down crossbow. The crossbow silently shoots bolts at 340 feet per second with brutal knockdown power. This lightweight crossbow is suitable for running and gunning and to be used in a tree stand.
With a quick detachable front, the crossbow can be disassembled/assembled in seconds and is therefore perfect for the traveling hunter. This unique high-quality crossbow is well worth the price and easily gives other crossbows on the market a run for their money.
